I have loved television shows since I was little. I remember idolizing Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because they were my age, and in multiple television series and movies. I remember watching Full House, Saved by the Bell, and Family Matter over and over again. I was addicted to the characters and the stories involved. Moving on to my teenage years I was obsessed with television shows such as Dawson’s Creek. I believed to have connections to some of the characters and would use the show as personal therapy. As I have grown older, I have obviously matured to better television series with higher involvement. My favorites shows now are 24, Lost, and Entourage.
Watching a complete television series is my favorite thing to do. Lying on the couch being involved in an awesome story, with amazing characters, there is nothing else like it. Well, reading a book… but seriously. Knowing that I have a full season ahead of me is like giving me a box of cookies! Yum yum!
One main reason why I love watching television shows is that it can relate to my own life. For example Entourage, I am not saying that the show is my life, but it is my fantasy of what I would love my life to be. I also enjoy watching the four main characters interact and have such a strong relationship together. Vince is the movie star and has Johnny Drama (his brother), E (manager and best friend), and Turtle (best friend) as his Entourage. Through thick and thin they are always there for each other. And even though Vince makes the money and is so famous the others aren’t jealous of him. Instead the take advantage of the situation and make jobs for themselves. Obviously they get big breaks and get the best of both worlds type of thing. I admire their relationship and it is what strives the show along.
As I looked up Entourage on wikipedia it said kind of the same thing as the theme of the show. Male friendship is the term wikipedia uses to describe the recurring theme. Series creator Doug Ellin stated, "Entourage works because it's about male friendship. The Hollywood setting is entertaining but it's really about the relationship between these guys". He later added that, "Ultimately, the show's theme is friendship and family. The characters may have the bling, but they're grounded guys who look out for each other. That's the backbone of the show. If it was just about fantasy lifestyles, it wouldn't be relatable". This view was supported by Jeremy Piven, who plays the talent agent Ari: "If it was just a show about wish fulfillment and guys getting [sex] because their best friend was famous, it wouldn't be that interesting"
This show is so much my dream that when I graduate college I plan on moving to Las Angeles to pursue my dream as a producer, editor, director, writer in Hollywood. I want to see what it would be like to be involved in a production of a television show. I want to create something that other people will enjoy and admire as much as I do with my favorite television shows. I want to be able to make other people so happy and want to stay home all day just to watch a show that I created.
